- Bhubaneswar: Fakir Mohan University in Bala sore has come up with a medical plant museum on its campus with the help of the Odisha Biodiversity Board. It identifies rare, endemic and threatened species from places of the state and plants these medicinal herbs and trees in the muse- um.
- "So far we have planted more than 270 plants of 38 species in the plant museum. We are planning to grow me- decanal plants of around 300 species," university vice- chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathy said.
- The university will name the plant museum after a no- ted botanist. "It will be a live museum where people can see growing plants in a Natural environment. It will help students, scholars, teachers and researchers. This museum will save and protect the species for future use and development," he added.
- A professor of the basic- emcee and biotechnology department of the Fakir Mo- hen University said they will bring plants every season. "Some plants which are seen during winter cannot be of- und in monsoon season, that's why we need to hunt for certain plant species during their growing period," the professor added.
- The professor said they are monitoring the growth of medicinal plants like red sandalwood, Kusum, slap and Madhavilata. Many Trees have been brought from the regional plant resource center and the medical plant garden in Bhubaneswar.
- "Because of climate change and global warming, some of the important specs may not survive in the future.," said the professor.
