Odisha vigilance seizes Rs 1 crore cash, 650g gold from senior mining officer
- BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance officials on Friday recovered around Rs 1 crore cash and around 650g gold jewelry from a senior mining officer in Odisha. They also unearthed immovable and movable properties from the officer.
- On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous house searches on the properties of Umesh Chandra Jena, additional director, directorate of mines, Bhubaneswar at 13 places in Khurda and Keonjhar districts.
- During the searches, 13 teams of the Odisha Vigilance unearthed a multi-storey building in Bhubaneswar, three buildings at Keonjhar, five plots in prime area of Keonjhar, a four-wheeler and two two-wheelers apart from cash and gold jewellery. Bank, insurance and other deposits/investments were under verification, said the official sources.
- “Jena’s son has claimed business income in running seven firms and Jena's wife has claimed commission income from the insurance agency. These claims are under verification. We are continuing further searches. Enquiry is in progress,” said the press statement of vigilance.
- The vigilance on Friday also conducted raids on properties of another officer Kandarpa Pradhan, additional chief engineer, minor irrigation circle, KBK, Bhawanipatna, at 8 places in Khudha, Angul and Kalahandi districts.
- During searches so far, eight teams of vigilance found a 3BHK and two 2BHK flats in Bhubaneswar, two single storied buildings at Angul, five plots in and around Angul town.
- “The measurement and valuation/assessment of the flats/buildings, plots are being carried out by the Vigilance Technical Wing. Bank and deposits are under verification. Enquiry is in progress,” said the official statement.
