State renews pact for free cardiac treatment

  • Bhubaneswar: The state health and family welfare department has renewed its agreement with the Prashanti Medical Services and Research Foundation for two years to provide free diagnosis and treatment services to children and adults suffering from cardiac ailments.
  • "This is the third time. that we renewed our agreement with the foundation," the director of health services, Bijay Mohapatra, said.
  • As per the agreement, the foundation will organize free screening camps for children as well as adults at the district headquarter hospitals and at medical colleges and hospitals and confirm and categories the suspected cardiac cases.
  • It will also arrange for the treatment of patients referred by the health department from time to time. The department has set a target of referring around 500 children and an equal number of adults, sources said.

  • "The foundation will arrange for the accommodation of the patients," Mohapatra added.
  • During the previous agreement, which was in force from 2018 to 2022, 940 pediatric cardiac patients and 256 adult cardiac patients had received free treatment at the two hospitals.
